The Macallan Litha

Art direction

The Macallan Litha is a limited edition single malt Scotch whisky inspired by the summer solstice. Named after Litha, an ancient word associated with midsummer and light – the expression explores the moment when two forces meet: The Macallan’s new make spirit and first fill sherry seasoned oak casks from Jerez de la Frontera.

The visual direction for the launch release was built around a sense of elemental convergence. Photography art direction captured the whisky’s warmth, radiance and intensity, while subtly rooting the composition in The Macallan’s Highland origins through oak leaves, shifting light and a distant landscape. These natural details created a bridge between the fantastical world of the release and the place from which it came.

Illustration art direction extended the story into a symbolic language of oak, water, animals and light. The artwork, created by Chinese illustrator Sija Hong, evokes the untamed moment when sherried wood and new make spirit come together to create something vivid, powerful and unrepeatable.
